Plants herbs, spreading to erect, annual, 0.5–5 dm tall, glabrous, greenish to grayish; stems with caudex absent, the aerial flowering stems erect, solid, not fistulose, 0.4–4 dm long, glabrous; leaves basal or sometimes sheathing up stems 1–3 (5) cm, the petioles 1–10 cm long, tomentose, the blades suborbiculate to subcordate, 1–5 cm long, 2–8 cm wide, densely white-tomentose abaxially, floccose or glabrous and green adaxially; leaf margins entire, blade 1–4 cm long, 2–4 cm wide; petioles 1–5 cm long; plants 0.5–5 dm; inflorescences cymose, open, spreading to rather erect and somewhat strict, 5–70 cm long, 10–60 cm wide, the branches glabrous, the bracts 3, scalelike, 1–1.5 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide; peduncles absent or erect, straight, stout, 0.01–0.1 cm long, glabrous; involucres turbinate, 1–2 mm long, 1–1.8 mm wide, glabrous, the teeth 5, erect, 0.4–1.2 mm long; flowers 1.5–1.8 mm long, the perianth white with greenish or reddish midribs, becoming reddish, glabrous, the tepals monomorphic, lanceolate to spatulate or ovate, the stamens mostly included, 1–1.5 mm long, the filaments glabrous; achenes brown, trigonous, 2 mm long, glabrous. 2n = 40.
